I do not want to hear the words "Well I've done better than that" or "I gave them to someone".

All results must be given to Mike Linaker - they must include Date and Place of Meeting, Event, Time or Distance and Position.

Third Annual Open Meeting

By Jules Wall, 1/8/05

The third Annual Open Medal Meeting took place on Sunday 24th July 2005. The meeting was organised by Burnley Athletic Club as a way of giving under 11 athletes a taste of competition as they could be the athletes at the 2012 Olympics.

The Club would like to thank Richard Sheilds who has supported the meeting over the last three years by taking time out of his busy officiating schedule to provide the youngsters with expert starting. Richard was joined by a fellow Championship starter Mr John Proctor this year, and we thank both for their support.

The event was supported by Burnley Football Club's youth team and we would also like to thank Vince Overson for his support.

The Athletes were presented with their medals by young apprentice footballers from the club's Youth Team - the footballers were: Jack Overson, Connor Smith, Ali Akhbar, Jay Rodrigues, Mark (Goal Keeper but can't remember his last name) and two outstanding young athletes, Leigh Lennon from Hyndburn Athletic Club and Leanne Scott from Burnley Athletic Club; the young athletes were thrilled to bits to receive their medals from these talented young people.

Thanks also go to all the helpers from Hyndburn AC, Pendle AC and Burnley AC who helped make the day special. Phil and I could not have pulled it off without their help and the meeting will be going ahead for its fourth year on the 23rd July 2006, so watch this space.

The First Competition of the Season!

By Jules Wall, 3/5/05

News from the first competition of the new season; our Under 17 & Under 20 male and female athletes took part in the first National Junior League meeting at Cleckheaton on Sunday 24th April. The young ladies team of Alexis Walker, Louise Highton and Danielle Walker came in seventh place with a respectable 98 points, a mere 50 point adrift of the 6th placed team Bolton United. This score was gained through wins in the Javelin for Alexis, 800m and 1500m for Danielle and Louise gaining 3rds in the 1500m and 4th in the 400m.

For the men's team of Martin Wall, Daniel Eckersley and 2nd Claim athlete Marc Hartley, they fared a little better, coming out in front of Bolton United with Burnley on 88 points. This was achieved in style with Martin Wall achieving a personal best in both the 200m sprint and the 100mH, for which he gained second place. Daniel Eckersley, after an almost disastrous start, pulled through to take 3rd place in his 100mH and Marc Hartley was 1st in his 2000m Steeple Chase in 6.36.6. Danny also took an outstanding 1st place in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line 4 seconds in front of the second place athlete, and then went on to take 3rd place in the triple jump whilst Martin Wall competed in Discus, Javelin and 100m to gain valuable points for the team.

Well done also to the officials who turned out to add to the teams' totals, however a plea was put forward for more officials, especially on the track. If you are interested speak to Mike Linaker or Phil Wall.

There will be more to come from the Northern League which took place yesterday (2/5/05), the vets match on Wednesday at Hyndburn AC and this Saturday the club is hosting the first National Young Athletes League Match.

Julie's Just Champion!

From Mike Morris 3/5/05

Jules has asked me to publicly notify people that she is now the club's named Diversity and Equality Champion.

This should help ensure that the Club continues to live up to its proud boast that all are welcome, regardless of ability, gender, race, etc. Well done Jules!
